Well, it's true. My Lovely Bride and I are now living in the magnificent redwood forests of West Sonoma County, California. It's along story, and you can visit the Affordable Paradise Update Page for all the details. The link is herewith (as they say). And just in case it doesn't publish the way it's supposed to (wouldn't surprise me with this Blog), it is: http://www.affordablehawaiiliving.com/update-33.html.
It was a long, tough decision and please know that our hearts are still in Hawaii and always will be. I am still going to support my mission to help people find affordable living in Hawaii, this Blog will be maintained and of course, Affordable Paradise is still available and a Fifth Edition is on the horizon, although at this point it seems that it will be in eBook format.
Your question, comments, suggestions are always welcome!
Stay tuned!

Welcome to the “Affordable Paradise” info blog! This blog is in response to the many questions I’ve received and to the reviews of my book, Affordable Paradise. Some of these include comments about the costs, especially those for real estate, being dated.
So now we have this platform for updates on the book and of course, an invitation to questions and discussion. The First, Second and Third Editions, published several years ago, are now out-of-date on real estate values.
The Fourth Edition, up to date through at least 2010 and the first half of 2011, is current once again.
You can get a feel for what's been happening in the housing and other areas (if you’re into that sort of thing) by checking out the postings and their dates on the “Updates” page of the Affordable Paradise Web site. As things changed through that volatile period, I kept updating the situation and I left the old updates in place for those who might be interested in how-and-when.
So now let's hear from you folks who are thinking about moving to Hawaii! Contrary to many very vocal opinions, Hawaii is still an affordable paradise, and it has been my intention from the beginning to show folks how to make that work.
And if you already live here and have some advice for those seeking it, please feel free to contribute! Sharing advice and ideas is what this is all about!
Please note two things about this Blog: One is that this Blog accepts anonymous postings so you do not need to "join" anything, and the other is that to see the latest entries, you need to first click on the "...comments" link at the bottom of the page, and then to see the newest entries, click on the "newest" link at the top of the entries page that comes up. Sorry about all that fuss. Blame it on Google!
A Special Request: Please use a name, even if it is an alias, when submitting a post. If you post as "Anonymous," that will be your name on the Blog, and it gets a bit difficult to respond when there's more than one "Anonymous!"
One more thing, as of 10/4/2010, I have had to add one of those little boxes in which you need to enter the squiggly word you see. The amount of spam coming in as posts had become overwhelming (and very much unwelcome) and this should stop it.
Thank you!
Welcome aboard, and Aloha!
